Thank you for reporting back on how it worked. I suspect that the symbolic links are not supported when writing to the NTFS filesystem and this is what causes the dated links to stop working.

You may want to check that symbolic links within your backup source are preserved. If you have them and preserving them is a requirement I would suggest using HFS+ as the file system for backup. If you do not have a need for the symbolic links then perhaps using the NTFS file system as a destination is an option. Just make sure you test the ability to restore your files and that all meta-data you require is available.
